Our specialties

Two things we do unlike anyone else in Tampa Bay.

Most of the families who find us were referred by another patient. The reason is almost always one of these two services.

Sedation Dentistry

Dr. Powless is experienced and certified in administering anesthesia that is "painless." We offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and in-office IV anesthesia, plus a range of techniques to ease your visit. Because our Davis Blvd office is directly next to Tampa General Hospital, deeper sedation can be done here rather than scheduled as a separate outpatient procedure.

Special Needs Dentistry

We have built our practice around patients who other offices struggle to serve: children and adults with developmental, behavioral, or medical complexities. Visits move at the patient's pace. When sedation is necessary it happens in-office. Families regularly tell us they have been bringing the same loved one here for ten and twenty years.

Full service list

Every service your family needs, in one practice.

We treat cleanings, cosmetic work, and full restorative care all under the same roof, so the same team you trust for a six-month checkup is the team you trust when something more involved comes up.

Preventive

Preventive Care & Cleanings

Routine cleanings, exams, x-rays, and personalized hygiene coaching. We pride ourselves on running an organized and on-time schedule, so a six-month checkup stays a six-month checkup.

Cosmetic

Cosmetic Dentistry

A beautiful, confident smile changes lives and attitudes. We help you plan and stage cosmetic work around the goals that matter to you, whether that's a single front tooth or a full smile makeover.

Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Professional whitening that's measurably brighter than what you can buy at the drugstore, done safely for your enamel and gums. Ask about our current promotions — special offers rotate throughout the year.

Restorative

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Composite fillings that match the natural shade of your teeth, so a restoration blends in instead of standing out. A modern replacement for older silver amalgam work.

Restorative

Dental Implants

Permanent, natural-feeling replacements for missing teeth. We plan implant cases carefully, walking you through timing, bone health, and the final restoration so you know what to expect at every step.

Restorative

Crowns & Bridges

Crowns to protect a tooth that's been weakened by decay or a large filling, and bridges to close a gap where a tooth has been lost. Fabricated to match your bite and the shape of your existing smile.

Restorative

Dentures

Full and partial dentures designed for comfort and a natural look. We take the time to get the fit right, with follow-up adjustments included so you actually wear them.

Periodontal

Periodontal Therapy

Treatment for gum disease, from deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) through ongoing maintenance. Catching periodontal issues early is one of the best things you can do for the rest of your dental care plan.

Anxiety care

Care for Anxious Patients

If you've put off the dentist for years, you're who we built this practice for. Slow appointments, frequent check-ins, weighted blankets, headphones, sedation if you want it. Nothing about your visit will be rushed.

In-office sedation

Sedation, done where you're already comfortable.

Our Tampa office sits directly next to Tampa General Hospital. That matters because it lets Dr. Powless provide in-office sedation in cases where most general practices would have to refer you out for an outpatient procedure. For families coordinating care around a special-needs patient, this often turns a multi-week scheduling project into a single appointment.

  • Nitrous oxide — light, fast-wearing, ideal for routine work where you just need to take the edge off.
  • Oral sedation — a calming medication taken before your appointment; you'll be conscious but deeply relaxed.
  • In-office anesthesia — deeper sedation for longer or more complex visits, performed by Dr. Powless on-site.

Families & caregivers

When other offices have said no, families come here.

Caregivers find us because their loved one needs a dentist who will move slowly, repeat steps without frustration, and not panic if a visit doesn't go to plan. Our hygienists and assistants have spent years learning what works — for children on the autism spectrum, adults with developmental disabilities, patients with mobility limitations, and patients who simply need extra time.

"Dr. Powless and his staff are great. We've been taking our special needs daughter there for 20 years. Even though she is very uncooperative it doesn't faze Dr. Powless or the assistants as they go about their work. Dr. Powless is always cheerful and positive. A unique dentist!"

Paying for care

Insurance, CareCredit, and payment plans.

Most major insurance

We are happy to file claims with most major dental insurance companies and work to maximize your benefits and minimize your out-of-pocket cost. Bring your card to your first visit and we'll verify coverage before treatment begins.

CareCredit & payment plans

If you do not have insurance, we offer payment plans and financing options through CareCredit so larger treatment plans can be split into monthly payments that fit your budget.
